Course Content

Effective Written Communication Skills- Improve your writing skills in this class.  Learn how to write leaflets and articles for union newsletters.  Read about important union leaders.

The Role of the Steward-Learn how to handle grievances and the latest techniques for advancing the grievance process.  The course includes the Organizing Model of Unionism.

Course Content

Collective Bargaining- The eleven week course will teach you how to research the employer, how to effectively organize the union members and how to negotiate.  Students participate in mock negotiations until they reach an agreement or strike.

Health Care Strategies                                                                      Cost $400

Gary Miller a health care expert in the Human Resources Department at DePaul will teach this five week class.  Topics to be covered are the health care reform and how the new law impacts health care plans, public employee health care changes, how to use your plan most efficiently, educating employees on health care and the use of in-house clinics.

Scholarships to cover $200 of the cost of Introduction to Labor Leadership and Advanced Labor Leadership classes are available .
