Michael Simmons was elected to the office of Recording Secretary in 2005. Michael Simmons sought this office at the end of the trusteeship. Michael came to the Chicago Transit Authority in 1988 as a bus operator. Michael applied for and was accepted in the Bus Service Supervisor Training Class in 2001. He opted to turn down supervision when he was afforded the opportunity to run for a union office. In 2002, Michael sought and won the position of Executive Board Member to represent the bus operators at Chicago Avenue Garage. Michael used that brief time to hone his skills, serving his members with unrelenting abandonment and devoted commitment.
Michael Simmons’ primary areas of responsibilities are:
- Keep a correct and proper account of the proceeding of the Local Union meetings
- To call the roll of officers and carry on all correspondences
- To keep an accurate and thorough account of all Grievances files with the Local
- To process through negotiation a resolution to all Grievance
- To notify all parties involved in association with a Grievance
