A Message From Our President / Business Agent

Darrell Jefferson

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

It is with great pride and pleasure that we are able to bring this website to our members.  It is long over due and we hope to improve our ability to communicate with the members.  As we all know coming to union meetings and being actively involved is the better way of staying informed, but for many that is not possible.  In this new age of information in cyberspace it is time for our Local to stay abreast with the times and technology.  Through this website we hope to educate and inform.  Perhaps something will catch your eye to propel you to get more involved.

Bud Billiken ParadeOur Local is on the move and the momentum is upward.  This administration is making every effort to bring the respect and pride back we once held and clearly deserve now.    We are working to make the name of ATU as recognizable as that of other unions.  However, the pride must begin within.  We are making great strides in putting a face to this Local.  In 2006, we participated in three (3) parades, Puerto Rican Day, Gay Pride and the Bud Biliken.  We ventured into a new territory by bring a two day conference to our membership, all while we fought off a pirate effort to hijack our members by the Teamsters.  We have continued our efforts in Springfield, lobbying for funding for public transit, funding for our struggling pension fund and improvement in working conditions.  We are reaching out to our members to get involved and stay involved.

Continue to visit this website as information will be changing and updated as needed. It is our hopes that in the future, we will post notices on the website as well as at the garage locations.  Through this website you can be assured that the information will be accurate and you won’t have to be concerned about someone tearing down the notice, or never posting the notice or even misinforming you to achieve a cynical ulterior motive.  We welcome your comments and suggestions.
